Hotel Shivalik – Lier Staff

We tried to visit and stay in Kasauli in late December but couldn’t actually stay in Kasauli, since this hotel shivalik which told us is located in Kasauli, was located in Dharampur – entirely a different city, which is a good 13-15 kms downhill of kasauli and at-least has 3-4 degree higher temperature. Plus above the national highway with day n night highway horns and honks.

It seemed as if the hotel’s management was unrealistic to admit that it dint lie in Kasauli and this is the argument which we got into when we checked in the hotel, since the hotel advertised and even confirmed us when we were booking it, that hotel was in Kasauli. And after this argument for sure …. our trip’s entire core happiness went for a toss.

And to our amusement they dint had any shame while trying to push us and make us accept that they were located in Kasauli, told us …. “sir vo saamne wala pahaad Kasauli hai (pointed across a deep valley to some 2nd-3rd mountain), ye saara Kasauli hills he kehlata hai”

Yes there were a few good things about the hotel which i don’t feel hold any importance and everything has to be overlooked because of the shameless behavior by the hotel staff.

Baikunth Resorts – Lovely place, but a little expensive!

Lovely place, but a little expensive!

As a hill station, I love Kasauli. In a 7 hour drive from Delhi, you reach a totally different place… it’s such a quaint pretty town………

Baikunth is away from the main Kasauli town – I think about a 15 minute drive from the main town centre. But it is gorgeous… The rooms are wonderful, and valley view from the main garden is really beautiful – the second best view in Kasauli I think (best being the view from the Government Tourist Hotel in the Upper Mall Road).

The food and service are all ok too….it’s just that I found the tariff a bit steep …. at half the rate one can find hotels in Baikunth’s vicinity that are good rest places……

But all in all, Baikunth is very pretty, peaceful and truly a great stay option away in the hills … If you can afford it, it is a must do vacation with parents or a calm romantic getaway !

Kasauli Regency – Fabulous Trip

Fabulous Trip

Kasauli Regency is one of the greatest places I have stayed in. It is not a very big hotel, it has about 10 rooms. We booked a honeymoon suite and a family room. Both the rooms were huge and very tastefully furnished and decorated. The staff were very friendly and we just got anything we asked for. There is a hangout restaurant on the terrace which is the best part of this hotel. There are music nights in the evening with a guitarist nemed Sanju, he plays amazing songs and also involves all the people around . He plays oldies as well as all recent bollywood songs. we just had an amazing time.

We also met a famous bollywood lyricist ‘Nilesh Misra’, he sang a few of his compilations for us like ‘jaadoo hain nasha hain’, ‘kya mujhe pyar hain’ etc. The food in the restaurant was amazing as well, I took some recipes from the chef. very homely and comfortable environment. I would recomment any one going with family or couples. And I would definitely go back.

Hotel R Maidens, Kasauli – V V Rude Staff

V V Rude Staff at the reception. Rooms for Rs:1100 without TV

We stayed at the hotel for two nights. The staff at the reception especially the male was very very rude. He charged us Rs:1100 for a single room for one night and that too without a TV and not worth the value . We requested him to install a TV in the room and he bluntly said that if you want to stay you stay otherwise you can leave the hotel. Since we were not familiar with the area we had no option but to stay in the hotel with the rude staff. Request nobody shud stay in this hotel. Very bad experience.

I alongwithmy wife went to Kasauli from Chandigarh by road. The reception was very good at the hotel, as my booking was already there, we were shown few rooms, but I was given a very good located room. The staff was very courteous, initialli there was some problem relating to water, which was immediately solved by them. The food servd was excellent, through the service has taken some time. The staff and the officers of the hotel were very good. I wish to go again to Kasauli and stay there only.

Kasauli Regency – What an Evening at Hangout

What an Evening at Hangout

We tried to book this hotel for a weekend couldn’t get through as Kasauli is packed in June specially the weekends.
So booked Monday & tuesday.

Best thing we did was to ask the staff about the activities. Besides TT & Pool they said they can arrange a guy who plays guitar. and it was without paying extra charges. That was awesome. This place Hangout, Bar & Restaurant in Kasauli Regency is amazing. It was little cold and the view was stunning. This guy I forgot his name, ….Sahil perhaps plays very nice Guitar and also sings mostly hindi songs, also played Hotel california for us.

We were agroups of six. all of us had a very quality time at this resort. Rooms were very good in quality.
But the evening at hangout was unforgettable. Very good experience in this small hotel.

Kasauli Castle – Well Located

Very well located with beautiful views and extremely good service. they also have a huge projector screen on which really nice movies are screened every evening 8pm onwards. So one doesn’t get the feeling that once the sun sets, there’s nothing left to do. The food served in the in house restaurant is a banquet with a lot of variety. We stayed 4 days and ate very well every day. All in all, Kasauli castle definitely helps makes a trip to Kasauli more memorable.

I stayed here with: On a Holiday – with Family

I liked: The decor, the garden and the projector screen on which movies were screened each evening.

I didn’t like: It’s a bit of a steep climb up to the hotel entrance but well worth it.

Hotel Kasauli Castle – Charming Kasauli

Charming Kasauli

Kasauli is a nice quiet place. Hanumanji Has kept one leg at Kasauli when he went to take Sanjivani For Laxmana. This place is called Manki Point in the Indian Airforce base station. You have walk a little from main gate of air force station & then to climb the hill of around 300 + steps. Nice view from the top.

Kasauli Castle resort is on hill and a very decent clean small resort. Management & staff is good. They organize evening movie or sports program on the projector in their small lawn. You can view the same from your room’s gallery. Other side are suit rooms having a nice view of Kasauli valley.

We stayed there for one night. Resort management is having the list of places to be visited at Kasauli. If you wish to rest then this is a good option on the way to Shimla from Chandigarh / Ambala.

Other attractions of Kasauli Sunset Point, Old British Church, Kasauli Club etc.

Kasauli – Peace and Tranquility

Location in the Shivaliks at 6,400 ft, overlooking the plains of Punjab, 77km from Shimla Route from Delhi NH1 to Ambala; NH22 to Dharampur via Panchkula and Pinjore; state road to Kasauli.

Strolling down quiet country lanes lined with aged chestnut trees, not a sound to be heard save for the sweet chattering of birds, Kasauli will help you rid your mind of its clutter and your body of its lassitude. Indeed, the very air of Kasauli is inspiring, making it the first choice of Khushwant Singh, who escapes to his cottage here for writing – something that is not without its distractions in Delhi.

Chances are, you’ve picked Kasauli for its peace and tranquility. This seems to be shattered once a year, every first week of October, when the Lawrence School at Sanawar close by celebrates Founder’s Day. Definitely a time to avoid Kasauli.

.

THINGS TO SEE AND DO :
Good news – there is practically nothing to do in Kasauli. If you do, however, want to drag yourself out of your comfy deckchair and trudge up the surrounding hills, Kasauli’s bracing, crisp air offers comfortable walks to those insistent on some exercise. Also stroll through the town, from the Lower Mall to the Upper Mall, and around the Sanatorium. ‘Views’ have been built at different points, offering views of the Himalayan peaks in the distance.

My affinity with Kasauli

I have already narrated my affinity with Kasauli in my earlier blog titled – Kasauli – the quiestes hill station, as my first blog on 20th April, 2007. Therein I had written that views from Kasauli during monsoons is something etheral. I had visited Kasauli again during last week of June, 2007 for some personal work and took the opportunity to capture a few alluring moments in my digital camera. Hotels in Kasauli were more or less the same in number. For those who have not read my earlier blog, Kasauli is situated in District Solan in Himachal Pradesh and is a prisitine hill station. It is at an average heigt of 6000 odd feet and about 325 Kms. from Delhi by road. The other means of reaching are detailed in my earlier blog referred to herein above. The most distinctive feature of Kasauli is that being the first hill ranges after the plains of Haryana & Punjab if offers unbridled view of the plains on one side as against the Shimla hills & beyond on other side. Hills adopt different moods during different seasons of the year, I invite you to soak in the spirit of the mountains during monsoons.

Kasauli Resort – Relaxed Memorable Moments

Relaxed Memorable Moments

I planned holiday with my son and husband to small uncrowded hill station, that should be near to Delhi and mostly approachable by train due to time constraint. We took Satabdi till Kalka and then took a one hour taxi ride to reach resort.

We booked resort holiday package with meals. Although we could not find much in kasauli town itself but stay at resort were relaxing and good. Room was spacious with proper ventilation.

My son enjoyed playing at lawn area of resort with other kids staying at resort. Food was excellent with music. Package includes buffet breakfast and dinner with lot of varieties. We also enjoyed discounted use of jacuzzi, sauna and massage, although we have taken more time than paid.

We only suggest more speedy services for food etc.

Liked — good view, good food, courteous staff, resort shop, play are and jaccuzi
Disliked — slow service

Alpine Hill Resort, Kasauli – Pathetic service

We visited this hotel on the republic day weekend, we had booked 7 out of their 8 rooms. Although the rooms are clean and location is good but the staff and service is pathetic. They dont have an operative kitchen so all the food has has to be ordered from other resorts. They could not provide us even tea at the hotel. Also they could nt give any extra pillows and blankets.

Wasn’t worth the 3000 bucks we paid them for each room….

Hotel R Maidens, Kasauli – Disappointing!

Disappointing!

We stayed here during the winter months and I must admit its a terrible hotel.Food is tasteless here and the rooms are horrible. Hotel Management turns the hot water system off so one cant have a shower in the evening if they want to.It is turned on in the morning after a reminder call to them. The water was lukewarm and the room was freezing. We were so tired and thought we will just doze off and not notice the cold but it was too cold to even sleep, we barely managed to catch a few hours sleep only.

The rooms arent heated so you have to request for them to provide a heater which doesnt do much to heat the room up properly. The beds are hard and uncomfortable and bedding is filthy. They have a doona which they provide in the rooms but it smelt horrible, we had no choice but to use it. A word of warning, when you leave the room you have to be extra careful not to leave the door or windows open even for one minute, the monkeys are a nuisance. I almost had one grab my handbag from my room. One tends to wonder if they are trained to do so :)

If you have travelled around India you wouldve noticed the lack of toilet paper in some hotels, its best to carry your own:) You will only find toilet papers in 5 & 4 star hotels and if you are lucky then in the others. I would stock my bag up with it in advance. Usually you can buy them from the chemists and trust me it comes in handy at all times.

Unfortunately, I didnt end up taking any snaps of this hotel so its obvious how much I disliked it. Due to lack of sleep I was very grumpy the next day after staying there and swore to pay a little extra and stay in nice, clean and warm hotels.
